Supporting Security Staff at Jozini Water Facilities
In 2021, a group of security officers employed by ASPD Security Services, contracted by the Umkhanyakude District Municipality, faced a severe challenge. After going unpaid for several months, they were preparing to strike and shut down water supply facilities in Jozini. Such an action would have left the community without access to essential water services.

Recognising the urgency of the situation, we stepped in to assist. Working alongside Mr. Sabelo Mabuyakhulu and his team, who at the time was canvassing to become ward councillor for Ward 21 in the Jozini Municipality, we engaged directly with the security staff. We provided food parcels to ease their immediate hardship and helped persuade them to suspend their strike action, ensuring that the water facilities could remain operational for the community.

We referred the matter to the Department of Labour, guiding the security staff through the correct channels to seek resolution. Through this process, their outstanding salaries were eventually paid.

This intervention was made possible through the generosity of Novubu Construction, who provided donations, and Shoprite Jozini, who supplied food parcels at discounted prices. Their support was instrumental in helping us meet the urgent needs of the workers during a critical period.
